INTERPPRETATION OF THE “PATENT” ALEXANDER BAILEY - MARCH 2, 1786
THE SUPREME EXECUTIVE COUNCEL OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA TO ALL WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME GREETINGS -
Know ye that in consideration of the monies paid by Alexander Bailey into the Receiver Generals Office of the Commonwealth at the granting of the Warrant herein after mentioned
there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said Alexander Bailey A certain tract of land called "Disappointment” Situate an the waters of Raccoon in the County of Washington Beginning at a corner White Oak thence by Abraham Scotts land North one degree East one hundred and fifty two perches to a White Oak thence by Moses Andrews land and land of John Singars North eighty eight degrees and an half East eighty eight perches to a White Oak thence North fifty seven degrees East eighty four perches to a White Oak thence by Robert Sheares land South twenty five degrees east one hundred and seventy perches to a post thence by Mathew Baileys land South seventy eight degrees West two hundred and thirty eight to the place of beginning containing One hundred and sixty two acres and seven eights and allowance of sixty cent for roads ?? with the appurtenances (Which said tract was surveyed in pursuance of a Warrant granted to the said Alexander Bailey dated 14 March 1785) - To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with the appurtenances unto the said Alexander Bailey, his heirs to the use of him the said Alexander Bailey his Heirs and assigns forever free and clear of all restrictions and reservations as to mines royalties quit ?ents or otherwise excepting reserving only the fifth part of all gold and silver for the use of this Commonwealth to be delivered at the pit mouth clear of all charges in witness whereof the honorable Charles Biddle Esquire Vice President of the Supreme Executive Council hath hereto set his hand and caused the State Seal to be hereto affixed in Council the first day of March -in the year of our Lord one thousand and seven hundred eighty six and of the Commonwealth the tenth
